Airborne TV tackles the mighty and the miniscule of the media world
May 24, 2001

London-based Airborne TV is planning to use this year’s Sunnyside to tackle your perceptions about the media world.

tom jonesFirst up, Worlds Apart will follow two journalism students from Cardonald College in Glasgow as they set out to tackle the world of journalism during a one-week work placement (save yourselves, don’t do it…). Tina Sartain is headed for the French capital and the Paris News Agency, joining the paparazzi in tackling the stars of the music and fashion industry. Her first interview? Legendary sex-symbol Tom Jones, followed by The Corrs, Posh Spice, Moby and the top Christian Dior fashion models.

Heather Forresters’ first kick at the journalistic can comes with the Highland News, a local paper in Inverness. She’ll be covering local crimes, bands hoping to make the big time, and regional sports figures.

What did they learn? Find out in this 30-minute production that follows the two fledgling reporters as they strike out for the first time. Coproduced with Celtic Broadcasting and BBC Scotland, the film will be completed for June at a budget of US$90,000.

On an entirely different note: Ever want to head up your own multi-million dollar porn company? Berth Milton Junior certainly didn’t. Nevertheless, he’s found himself running Private, a porn empire that’s traded on the U.S. stock market and is worth something in the neighborhood of US$200 million. Private was started by Milton’s father in 1965, but when the company began to fall on hard times, Berth Jr. had to step in and turn the company around. Regretfully (at least for Milton), he outdid himself. Private is now thriving, turning out two magazines a month and over 70 movies a year. Rumors even have the company buying out Bunny empire Playboy.

Milton has become a bit of a recluse and refuses most interviews, but Airborne has secured his participation for this 60-minute film (also available as a 30-minute). The production will follow him around the world, and will interview his fiancée Linda as well as his two daughters (whom Milton hopes will never join the family business).

Ready for July, Private – The Reluctant Porn King is a US$105,000 film being coproduced by Channel 5 in the U.K.
