CNN News Group appoints new chairman and CEO; AT&T loses a board member; the Beeb names a new head of religion & ethics.

AOL Time Warner Inc. has named Walter Isaacson, former editorial director at Time magazine, chairman and CEO of CNN News Group. He is taking over for Tom Johnson, who joined CNN in 1990 and announced his retirement in late June.

John Malone, Liberty Media Group chairman, has resigned his seat on AT&T Corp.’s board of directors one month early. Set to step down August 10, Malone resigned just days after AT&T received a US$58 billion offer from Comcast Corp. for AT&T’s broadband division.

Alan Bookbinder, executive producer in the BBC’s science department, has been named head of religion & ethics. Bookbinder, who assumes his new position on July 30, will commission religious and ethical programming for television, radio and online. He will report to Glenwyn Benson, the Beeb’s controller of specialist factual.

Donald McDonald has been tapped for a second five-year term as chairman of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

Francois Macerola, who just ended his term as executive director of Telefilm Canada, was named chair of the Montreal-based agency. He replaces Laurier LaPierre, who resigned last month following his appointment to the Canadian Senate by Prime Minister Jean Chretien. Filling Macerola’s former post as acting executive director is Johanne St.-Arnauld; Elizabeth Friesen has been appointed acting director of Canadian operations, replacing Peter Katadotis.

Elizabeth Dorée, former VP, sales planning and program inventory for Warner Bros., has been named VP, program planning for WE: Women’s Entertainment.

USA has promoted Frank DeRose to the new post of VP of program scheduling. DeRose previously served as director of program scheduling.

Marianne Landin will take over as CEO and managing director of Scandinature, replacing Bo Landin who will focus on international film productions as the company’s head of programming.

Getty Images has a new senior VP of sales – James A. Bonaventura.

Giampaolo Sodano has been appointed president of Italy’s national distributors union Unidim. He replaces Andrea Occhipinti.

Eric Hollreiser, VP of Tierney Communications in Philadelphia joins ABC Cable Networks Group in L.A. as senior VP, media relations.

Leslee Perlstein, senior VP, human resources at Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. in L.A., joins E! Networks, L.A. as senior VP, human resources.

Sarah S. Jeon, manager of business development at in L.A. has been named manager of sales strategy and affiliate sales at L.A.-based Fox Cable Networks Group.

Jim Botko, VP of movies and miniseries at Warner Bros. Television in L.A. has been named VP of event programming for L.A.-based In Demand.

Penny Watier has been appointed national sales manager for Canadian film, TV and theater equipment supplier William F. White Ltd.
