The 2010 AFI-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Documentary Festival will open with Freakonomics directed by the team of Alex Gibney, Morgan Spurlock, Eugene Jarecki, Seth Gordon, Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing. The film, based on the book by Steven Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, uses the authors' technique of applying statistics and incentives to analyze human behavior, to investigate various subject matter such as Sumo wrestling, the consequences of giving your child an odd name, if money can be used as an incentive to get underachievers to raise their grades and why crime rates dropped in the early 1990s. Gibney, Spurlock, Grady and Ewing will be in attendance at the opening of Silverdocs. This year's festival runs from June 21 to 27 in Silver Spring, Maryland.
