With a better than expected upfront ad market, strong ad sales from its local stations and impressive gains made by the entertainment channels in its cable division, NBC Universal boasted a 13% increase in operating profits to US$607 million in a Q2 earnings report from parent company General Electric. Revenue at NBCU rose 5% to $3.75 billion, giving NBCU the highest increase of any unit in the GE family. Revenue for the cable networks division, which includes Bravo, Oxygen, Syfy, CNBC and USA Network, was up by 7% with operating income for the unit posting a 10% increase. NBCU’s broadcasting revenue posted a smaller gain of %1, and a profit increase of %6.
