Ovation names Weiss chief creative officer

A former digital media exec and entrepreneur with a background in television, Robert Weiss (pictured) will oversee all aspects of the arts and culture cable network's strategic and creative direction in the newly created position.

U.S. cable network Ovation has appointed Robert Weiss (pictured) to the newly created position of chief creative officer.

Formerly chief operating officer for Hollywood-based digital media company EQAL, Weiss will oversee the strategic and creative direction of the arts and culture network across all media platforms, including  programming, development, marketing, branding, on-air promotions, production, public relations, acquisitions, program strategy, scheduling, talent relations, digital operations and research.

“Rob knows how to build entertainment brands made for the 21st Century, and he has that rare combination of both business and creative acumen to grow that brand into a multi-platform powerhouse,” Ovation CEO Charles Segars said in a statement.

“What a huge opportunity it is to grow Ovation’s audience,” Weiss added. “I’m excited to tap into millions of media consumers who crave innovative and compelling entertainment – both those viewers who already know about Ovation and those new viewers who will soon discover Ovation’s awesome programming to come in 2013.”

During his time at EQAL, Weiss was responsible for managing day-to-day business operations and the creative aspects of the company’s portfolio of more than 40 media properties, including Celebrity Influencer Networks, Branded Entertainment Networks and Owned & Operated Networks. He also launched celebrity media networks and as well as EQAL’s YouTube-funded u look haute fashion and beauty channel.

Prior to that, he was CEO and founder of media incubator Parkwood Media Ventures and served as a senior executive for cable networks such as VH1, FX and FUSE.

Weiss will be based in Ovation’s Santa Monica headquarters.
