‘NOVA,’ ‘American Experience’ lead WGA doc nominees

Docs that aired on U.S. pubcaster PBS's strands 'NOVA,' 'American Experience' and 'American Masters' feature among this year's Writers Guild of America Awards nominees. (Pictured: Clinton)

PBS programs have swept the documentary nominations for this year’s Writers Guild of America Awards.

The Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW) and the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) unveiled their crop of nominees for the 2012 television season, with docs that have aired on the U.S. pubcaster’s science strand ‘NOVA’ and doc strands ‘American Experience’ and ‘American Masters’ scoring nods in the ‘other than current events’ documentary category.

The nominees are The Amish (‘American Experience’) writer David Belton; Clinton (pictured above) (‘American Experience’) writer Barak Goodman; Death and the Civil War (‘American Experience’) writer Ric Burns; The Fabric of the Cosmos: The Illusion of Time (‘NOVA’) writer Randall MacLowry; The Fabric of the Cosmos: Quantum Leap (‘NOVA’) writers Josh Rosen, Julia Cort, Joseph McMaster and Josh Rosen; and Johnny Carson: King of Late Night (‘American Masters’) writer Peter T. Jones.

The 2013 Writers Guild Awards will be handed out on February 17  at simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York. Check out the full list of nominees here.
