Hulu, Original Productions launch digital series “Raising the Bar”

Deadliest Catch producer Original Productions has launched Raising the Bar (pictured), its first unscripted web series produced through its digital shingle OP Entertainment Network.

Backed by whisky brand George Dickel, the 6 x 12-minutes series, which premiered on VoD site Hulu this week, follows six teams of craftsmen as they design and build bars using unorthodox parts, such as a metallic design welded using thousands of washers and the front end of a classic convertible.

It was shot over three days during the The World Series of BBQ in Kansas City last year and features hosts Diageo Master of Whisky Gerry Graham and radio host/former pro-baseball player Rob Dibble.

“Digital platforms are not just an adjunct to traditional media, they are our future,” said the OP Entertainment Network’s CEO Philip D. Segal in a statement. “It’s all about content innovation and OP Entertainment Network is more than ready for the technological challenge.”

Original SVP Gayle Gilman – who served as executive producer on the series alongside Segal, exec VP of programming Jeff Conroy and company founder Thom Beers – added: “The digital space is exciting for us on so many levels, as a place for us to create new content, incubate new ideas and grow an audience. We can use all the resources and talent we have grown for our television business in a whole new way.”
