CHCH buys Mark Burnett game show “Spin Off”

Spin Off, from Suddenly SeeMore Productions, will debut on Canadian indie broadcaster CHCH this fall, before being shopped, along with the original format, to international buyers.

Canadian indie broadcaster CHCH has acquired spinning wheel game show Spin Off, an original format from Mark Burnett’s One Three Media produced for the Canadian market by Morgan Elliott’s Suddenly SeeMore Productions.

The deal, which will see One Three Media shop the finished Canadian game show and original format internationally, recalls another recent deal that sees UK distributor DRG sell the Canadian madcap science series Never Ever Do This At Home, based on a Norwegian TV format, internationally, including to Spike TV. CHCH already airs Wheel of Fortune.

Spin Off is a half-hour game show hosted by Elvira Kurt that tests contestants on trivia and their luck offers a chance at winning cash and prizes based on the spin of a wheel.

Elliot, who will produce the Canadian version of Spin Off, previously worked with Burnett on Eco-Challenge.

“We are very happy to be working with a television icon like Mark Burnett and to be part of making Canadian game show history,” said Jennifer Chen, VP of programming at CHCH parent Channel Zero.

For C. Scot Cru, senior VP of international at One Three Media, who brokered the deal to bring Spin Off to CHCH, getting the format into Canada is a first step to launching it worldwide.

“We love working with Canada’s vibrant production community and are excited to launch this format with such a great broadcast partner,” Cru said in his own statement.
