UK production company Dragonfly has added a head of development and promoted Edwina Silver, exec producer of The Burrowers: Animals Underground (pictured), to the role of head of specialist factual.

Silver steps into her newly created role after serving most recently as the company’s executive producer. Prior to that, she was the head of development when she joined Dragonfly in 2006.

Her credits include Raised Wild for Animal Planet, Extreme A&E for Channel 4, and The Burrowers: Animals Underground for BBC2. Before joining Dragonfly, she was a freelance factual producer, making docs for the BBC, C4 and Channel 5.

The new head of development, Silke Abele, joins from North One Television where she was the development producer. She had been with North One since 2006.

“Specialist factual is an ideal growth area for the Dragonfly team’s creative development,” said Simon Dickson, managing director of Dragonfly TV. “We’re at our best when we apply pioneering storytelling approaches to popular subjects.

“Ed and the team have proved that on The Burrowers with unforgettable results and her natural curiosity and dynamism make her the perfect person to spearhead this exciting new phase of Dragonfly’s creative evolution.

“In addition, we welcome Silke who has a great track record in getting smart ideas onto the screen. We’re delighted she has joined us to head up development.”
