The deadline is fast approaching for producers interested in entering the H2 Development Lab Contest, awarding a series of development deals of up to US$20,000 each for up-and-coming producers.
The Realscreen Summit has partnered with A+E Networks-owned U.S. cable network H2 to launch the competition. Producers interested in applying for the contest must submit a two- to five-minute video pitch; or a series paper pitch along with a two- to five-minute video sample of their company’s work.
Submissions should be uploaded via summit.realscreen.com/2014/H2. Entry guidelines and content criteria are also available at that link, and the deadline for submissions is January 16, 2014.
Five winners will be selected and named at a special session at the Realscreen Summit on January 27, 2014.
“I’ve had an incredible experience finding new producers and shows for H2 through the Realscreen Summit,” said Paul Cabana, senior VP and head of programming for H2, in a statement. “Two years ago, Committee Films – a small Minneapolis-based production company that had never produced a TV series – showed me a pitch tape.
“We bought 13 episodes on the spot and now America Unearthed is our number one new series and we’re about to premiere season two. A year before that, I saw the tape from Stephen David Entertainment that became The Men Who Built America, which would go on to become a huge Emmy winning hit for both History and H2.
“We are thrilled to be working with realscreen to develop this initiative and find new partners for the brand, and our next crop of hits.”
The news comes after two years of significant growth for A+E Networks’ H2, a spin-off channel from History, which the network says has grown more than 75% in its key A25-54 demo since its launch.
