U.S. net ABC Family has ordered a hidden-camera prank show entitled Freak Out from SallyAnn Salsano’s 495 Productions, set to premiere as part of the net’s Halloween programming.

The 14 x 30-minute series will feature an unsuspecting target whose fears are brought to life through elaborate special effects, intricate makeup, actors and multiple cameras. Each prank is devised with the target’s friends and family, who assist in tailoring the stunt.

Freak Out premieres this fall during the net’s “13 Nights of Halloween” event.

“I’m glad to get reality back on our schedule and to continue to grow our original programming,” said Tom Ascheim, president of ABC Family, in a statement.

“Scary can be funny, and this series is sure to deliver the ‘sclaughing’ – the screaming and the laughing,” he added. “We’re also excited to be working with 495 Productions, a company with a proven track record for delivering hugely entertaining reality series.”

Previous series from 495 Productions – recently acquired by FremantleMedia – include Jersey Shore and Snooki and JWOWW for MTV, and Tattoo Nightmares for Spike.
