UK pubcaster Channel 4 has ordered an hour-long series on the world of clairvoyants, psychics and mediums.

Tentatively titled Northern Spirit, the ob-doc is produced by The Only Way is Essex producer Lime Pictures, and follows clairvoyants responding to what they perceive as an “increased demand” for spiritual guidance in the north of England.

According to a release issued by the pubcaster, the series follows the region’s established psychic practices and professional rivalries, and provides “an authentic insight into this intriguing, ethereal world often shrouded in secrecy.”

Northern Spirit  was commissioned by Channel 4′s editor of formats Simone Haywood and head of formats Dominic Bird. The hour-long program is to air on the pubcaster later this year.

“Northern Spirit promises to bring a warm and unique insight into the mysterious world of clairvoyants,” said Bird in a statement. “With a 360-degree view of this world through the eyes of both the psychics and their loyal clients Northern Spirit will celebrate the characters behind this extraordinary community.”

Jack Kennedy, head of format and factual and executive producer for Lime Pictures, added: “From our businesses to our love lives, these modern mediums advise on every facet of life. It’s a fascinating world that raises many profound questions about our innate desire for spiritual guidance.”
