C4 dips toes into Christian Louboutin doc

French shoe designer Christian Louboutin (pictured) is the focus of a forthcoming documentary for UK pubcaster Channel 4.

Titled Christian Louboutin: The World’s Most Luxurious Shoes, the Brook Lapping-produced film offers insight into the business of luxury shoes and follows the designer – known for his signature red soles – as he prepares for the next season. Cameras were granted intimate, year-long access to the fashion icon as he worked Paris Fashion Week, took meetings with Vogue and fitted celebrity clients.

Directed by Our Queen’s Michael Waldman, the doc follows Louboutin and his butler Safquat as they traverse the globe looking to expand the luxury shoe empire into the Middle East and India.

John Hay, commissioning editor for arts at C4, commissioned the film, with Dinah Lord serving as executive producer.

“I’m sad to say I’ve never owned a pair of Louboutin heels, but watching this film I was completely won over by his cheek, wit and sense of mischief,” Hay said in a statement. “It’s a pleasure to get a glimpse behind the curtain at the world he and his clients inhabit, and Michael [Waldman] has done a brilliant job of capturing it on film.”
