BBC Worldwide North America has appointed former Scripps Networks Interactive exec Sergei Kuharsky (pictured) to senior VP of strategy and business development.
In the new position, Kuharsky will be tasked with driving growth across the firm’s businesses across North America, as well as unearthing business opportunities through partnerships and acquisitions. In addition, he will work closely alongside joint venture channel BBC America while leading the strategy in development of such key franchises as Top Gear and BBC Earth across all businesses.
Based in New York, Kuharsky will report directly to Ann Sarnoff, president of BBC Worldwide North America.
Most recently, Kuharsky spent eight years at Scripps Networks Interactive where he served as GM of Food Network. In this role, he led the brand’s growth strategy and built out the network’s consumer products portfolio to include a magazine joint venture with Hearst and a direct to retail program with Kohl’s department stores across the U.S.
Prior to joining Scripps, Kuharsky served as executive VP of sales and marketing at In Demand Networks, where he developed and launched HD, MOD and SVOD services including Howard Stern TV. Kuharsky has also held various senior titles at MTV Network’s Nickelodeon Channel, Now Showing Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Entertainment.
“Throughout his career, Sergei has a proven track record of success in building businesses,” said Sarnoff in a statement. “I can’t think of a better person to help us plot BBC Worldwide North America’s strategy as we grow in the U.S. and Canada.”
