In this week’s round-up, new unscripted series and documentaries are slated to premiere across CMT, Viceland, Vimeo, CNBC and Investigation Discovery.
The 6 x 45-minute series,which originally transmitted across Vice-owned food brand Munchies, follows restaurateur and food personality Eddie Huang as he traverses the globe to experience local cultures and delicacies, from drinking burgundy in Burgundy and exploring neocolonialism through jerk chicken and Pan-African food in Jamaica, to investigating the North African origins of arancini in Italy. Huang’s World premieres on April 28 at 10 p.m. EST/PST.
The vérité-shot series, which bows May 12 at 10 p.m. EST/PST, will provide exclusive access to Las Vegas district attorney Steve Wolfson and the Clark County District Attorney’s office as they pursue justice in their community. The series, which features surveillance footage and photography, will document the DA’s office as they assess each crime scene and interview victims and witnesses while also chasing a conviction in the courtroom.
Additionally, Oscar-awarded filmmaker Morgan Neville’s latest documentary, A Fighting Chance, is now available for streaming worldwide on video-sharing site Vimeo. In partnership with Samsung Electronics, the short film offers an inside look into the lives of four Olympic hopefuls from across the globe as they attempt to achieve their dreams of competing at the Summer Games in Brazil. The hopefuls include a marathon runner from Lesotho, a beach volleyball team from Vanuatu and a boxer from the Dominican Republic. The doc short is also available via Samsung Mobile’s official YouTube channel.
Meanwhile, U.S. cable network CMT will drive into the history of the most popular motorsport in America with the three-part, six-hour docuseries NASCAR: The Rise of American Speed. The series, which airs May 22 at 10 p.m. EST/PST, will shed light on the origins of the automotive sport’s early pioneers while following its ascent to a national staple. Produced by Stephen David Entertainment, the three-night special event will feature archive footage, re-enactments and firsthand accounts with NASCAR personalities and experts, including Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jeff Gordon, Kyle Larson and Tony Stewart.
Finally, American cable net CNBC’s Cleveland Hustles will follow NBA superstar LeBron James and his long-time friend and business partner Maverick Carter as they enlist four business partners to give four budding Cleveland-based entrepreneurs with the financial backing and guidance they need to launch their enterprise. The Magical Elves- and SpringHill Entertainment-made series will also see neighborhoods “desperate” for resources provided with jobs and services as each of the four businesses develop.
Cleveland Hustles is scheduled to air August 24 at 10 p.m. EST/PST across CNBC.
