UK pubcaster Channel 4 has ordered the tentatively titled Penelope Keith’s Palaces and People (pictured) from Ten Alps-owned producer Reef Television.

The 4 x 60-minute series will follow the British actor as she tours the country to visit Queen Elizabeth’s official residences as well as royal institutions and landmarks in order to mark the monarch’s 90th birthday.

The four episodes will see Keith traveling through England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to meet the people who live and work in each facility as she seeks out long-forgotten stories that have contributed to the draw of the English empire.

Chris Kelly will serve as executive producer on Penelope Keith’s Palaces and People, alongside series producer Zoe Dobson. Channel 4 commissioning editor Lizi Wootton ordered the series.

Reef Television was acquired last June by UK indie Ten Alps for an initial payment of £2 million (US$3.14 million), joining a production roster that includes Brook Lapping, Blakeway and Films of Record.
