CNN’s Parts Unknown presenter Anthony Bourdain, Food Network’s Chopped and HBO Documentary Films’ Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck (pictured) were the top winners at the Realscreen Awards this evening (June 9), picking up prizes for Outstanding Host, Best Lifestyle Competition and Best Non-Fiction Arts and Culture, respectively.
As previously announced, Caitlyn Jenner, star and executive producer of E!’s I Am Cait, was honored as the Realscreen Awards’ 2016 Personality of the Year, and inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame at the annual awards ceremony in Santa Monica, California.
“I wanted to come here today to present this award because Caitlyn’s my friend,” said actor Candis Cayne when presenting the award for Personality of the Year. “Her heart, aside from a few squabbles in politics, is in the right place. She has a long way to go, but she’s done a lot for our community and our world. Here’s to you, Caitlyn Jenner.”
“It’s been quite a year to say the least,” added Jenner in a previously recorded video message, as she was unable to attend. “I’ve learned so much and I’m glad I won [the award] this year because after this year, I don’t have a secret left in my life. There’s nothing better in life than living your life authentically.”
Also entering Realscreen’s Hall of Fame was Paul Telegdy, president of NBC’s newly formed Alternative and Reality Group, and Brent Montgomery, founder of Leftfield Entertainment and CEO of ITV America.
In addition to winning Outstanding Achievement in Hosting, Bourdain’s Parts Unknown series also picked up the award for Best Lifestyle – Food, while HBO’s Montage of Heck from End of Movie walked away with awards for Best Music, Best Editing and Best Directing, as well as the Best Non-Fiction Arts and Culture prize and an Award of Excellence for Non-Fiction.
Meanwhile, Science Channel’s Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman picked up Best Non-Fiction Science and Technology program, while the Original Productions-made Deadliest Catch for Discovery Channel was honored with Outstanding Reality Docuformat as well as the top prize for cinematography.
Elsewhere, the Condé Nast Entertainment-, Evergreen Pictures- and GQ-produced web series Magic City took the Digital and Branded Content prize for Web Series in Non-Fiction, while World of Wonder Productions’ Untucked: RuPaul’s Drag Race took home the Digital and Branded Content award for Reality and Lifestyle.
Rounding out the evening’s multiple award-winners was History’s Alone, which won Most Compelling Character for Alan Kay, along with an award for Constructed Reality, in which it tied Discovery Channel’s Naked and Afraid.
