The Washington, DC-based AFI Docs fest has announced 10 issue-driven films from its roster that will be taking part in its Impact Lab for this year’s edition.
Produced in partnership with Picture Motion and in collaboration with NBCUniversal, the second edition of the Impact Lab, taking place on June 21-22, will provide the filmmakers behind the projects with training opportunities in advocacy, grassroots communication and engagement.
After completing the Lab, the filmmakers are eligible to apply for the AFI Docs/NBCUniversal Impact Grants, which support the impact campaigns of select Lab participants. CrossCurrents Foundation and The Fledgling Fund are also supporters of the initiative.
Films selected for this year are: Almost Sunrise (Michael Collins), American Baghdad (Ron Najor), Care (Deirdre Fishel), Check It (Toby Oppenheimer, Dana Flor), Farewell Ferris Wheel (Jamie Sisley, Miguel “M.i.G.” Martinez), The Islands and the Whales (Mike Day), Newtown (Kim A.
