FremantleMedia International (FMI) has inked a deal to represent RTL Deutschland’s library of finished programming, as well as rights to future commissions and show formats.
Under the terms of the deal, FMI will become the exclusive global distributor (ex-German language territories) for all Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland’s original programming dating back to 2000. This includes several hundred hours of content from Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland channels.
Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland has invested heavily in its original content development recently, increasing its number of hours in production. FMI will take these future titles out to international buyers as a result of the deal.
Included in the partnership are also a number of show format rights, which FMI will look to to take advantage of through its global network of production offices.
“Today’s announcement further strengthens the relationship between FMI and Germany’s number one broadcaster, Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland. Their recent commitment to, and investment in, scripted content has produced some great shows that we look forward to taking out to the market,” said Jens Richter (pictured), CEO of FremantleMedia International, in a statement.
RTL Deutschland previously worked with Germany-based distributor Global Screen.
