Time Inc.’s recently launched television production arm has been commissioned to produce an hour-long true crime-special for A+E Networks UK’s Crime + Investigation (CI).
The TI Productions UK-made Britain’s Forgotten Serial Killer: Trevor Hardy will explore the motivations behind Trevor Hardy, known as the ‘Beast of Manchester’ — a convicted serial killer who murdered three teenage girls in the Manchester area between December 1974 and March 1976.
While Hardy was a prolific killer, his crimes at the time were overshadowed by the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper.
The one-off will be presented by Dr. Jason Payne-James (pictured), a forensic and legal medicine specialist. It will focus on previously unseen personal letters and documents found in Hardy’s prison cell following his death in September 2012. The film also explores whether Hardy’s spree could have extended beyond the three deaths he was found guilty of committing.
Britain’s Forgotten Serial Killer: Trevor Hardy is scheduled to debut exclusively on CI in the UK in January 2018.
Time Inc. UK’s MikiMistrati serves as executive producer on the one-off that was commissioned by Koulla Anastasi, director of CI at A+E Networks UK.
Launched in 2016, TI Productions UK serves as the in-house production arm for Time Inc.’s British operations and is focused on developing quality factual and fact-ent programming for major UK broadcasters.
Britain’s Forgotten Serial Killer: Trevor Hardy is the second commission for the studio. In July, BBC3 aired the 30-minute documentary Stacey Dooley Investigates: Kids Selling Drugs Online, which followed the doc maker as she ventured undercover to investigate the growing criminal world of Britain’s digital drug dealers.
