Berlin Film Festival unveils Panorama titles
The 2018 Berlin Film Festival has unveiled 11 films that will make up the festival’s Panorama program.
Curated by new section head Paz Lázaro together with Michael Stütz and Andreas Struck, the Panorama program is dedicated to controversial and unconventional features. Three of the 11 films are documentary titles.
In the German doc Zentralflughafen THF (Central Airport THF), Brazilian-Algerian director Karim Aïnouz films the everyday lives of refugees in the hangars of the defunct Berlin airport Tempelhof.
In the Brazilian documentary Ex-Pajé (Ex Shaman), Luiz Bolognesi shows the ethnocide of the indigenous Paiter Suruí who live in the Amazon basin.
Finally, Swedish filmmaker Göran Hugo Olson’s That Summer presents what the director believes to be lost footage from the documentary classic Grey Gardens.
The Berlin Film Festival runs from Feb. 15-28, 2018.
Discovery en Espagnol, NFL team on “Aventura NFL”
Discovery en Español and the National Football League (NFL) have teamed on a half-hour special that goes behind-the-scenes of an NFL gameday experience.
Aventura NFL will offer a look at the game through the eyes of players, broadcasters, cheerleaders and fans.
The special was specifically created by Discovery en Español and the NFL to introduce the game experience to a Spanish-speaking audience. Shot in Miami in the days surrounding the Dolphins’ Week 9 Sunday Night Football game against the Oakland Raiders, it will show viewers the Hispanic ties found throughout the NFL.
Aventura NFL is an NFL Films production led by Rob Gehring and Alan Brown, produced for Discovery en Español. Michela Giorelli and Rafael Rodriguez serve as executive producers for the network. The special airs Dec. 19 at 10 pm. ET/PT.
PeopleTV readies “Perfect Fit”
Time Inc.’s free streaming network, PeopleTV, will debut a new body-positive bridal series.
The Perfect Fit (pictured), produced by Authentic Entertainment, documents 12 curvy brides on their search for the ultimate wedding gowns.
The six-episode series is filmed in Chicago’s Haute & Co. Bridal Boutique, which specializes in bridal consultations and wedding dresses between sizes 14 and 32.
“This fun, heartwarming series highlights the importance of self-love and self-worth,” said Suzanne Ross, head of development, PeopleTV. “Every episode centers around lifting ourselves and each other up, promoting positivity. This simple, yet crucial act is sometimes forgotten.”
The Perfect Fit premieres Jan. 9.
