Irish broadcaster RTÉ has made new senior appointments within its content teams as part of an ongoing restructure.

Former RTÉ factual head Niamh O’Connor has been appointed as deputy director of content.

Starting her new position in March, O’Connor will report into the director of content. O’Connor will work with the group heads of content to commission and oversee the development and execution both in-house and commissioned programs across RTÉ radio, television and online.

O’Connor had served as head of factual since 2009.

Elsewhere, John McHugh has been named group head of entertainment and music, RTÉ and has begun the role this week.

In this capacity, McHugh will have responsibility for the development and management of RTÉ’s entertainment and music output across television, radio and online – excluding RTÉ’s Orchestras, Choirs and Quartets and RTÉ lyric fm.

McHugh has commissioned and produced entertainment programming in Ireland and the UK over the past 20 years. He served as chief executive of Tyrone Productions for five years and has held senior commissioning positions at the BBC and Channel 4.
