Rooftop Content Group expands

Dutch distribution and production company Rooftop Content Group has launched two subsidiaries.

Rooftop Content Group’s distribution business will now move under the umbrella of Rooftop Film & TV.

The company has also launched Rooftop Immersive Studio, which will create, produce and distribute engaging virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), cross reality (XR) and 360-degree video productions for international clients and partners. The division is currently in discussions with various mobile operators, cable providers and OTT channels.

Both subsidiaries will work hand-in-hand to deliver IP.

Jan Maarten Groen, founder of A Film and former sales director at Universal Benelux, has joined Rooftop Immersive Studio as co-founder, while VR industry veteran Roger Rosweide has joined as partner.

Additionally, the company will coproduce the VR project The Ark Experience, which was created by industry veterans Uri Schutzer, Shmuel Ben-Shalom and Avivit Rosinger. The experience will interweave live performance and interactive technology to allow audiences to “shape a story of their own that eventually impacts the collective”. Each choice can unlock a different storyline and the same show will never been seen twice.

Rooftop Content Group launched in 2014 as an independent international production and distribution company headquartered in Amsterdam.

W orders new format from Dr. Christian

British broadcaster UKTV’s premium entertainment channel W has commissioned Firecracker Films to produce a new 10 x 60 minute format following a popular doctor and presenter.

Dr. Christian: 12 Hours to Cure Your Street will follow Dr. Christian Jessen as he traverses the country in a fully functional mobile clinic to treat individuals at their doorstep.

The 10-part series will feature Dr. Christian and Dr. Sara Kayat racing against the clock to complete as many house calls and appointments within a 12-hour shift, unaware of what symptoms and conditions their patients will have until they open the front door.

Firecracker’s Federico Ruiz executive produces alongside chief creative officer Jes Wilkins, production executive Julie Scott and series producer Joel Edwards.

Dr. Christian: 12 Hours to Cure Your Street will broadcast across W later this year.

Gil Formats inks deals for The Silence Breaker

Gil Formats, the Tel Aviv-based global TV content creator and distributor, has secured European deals for its factual entertainment format The Silence Breaker.

Following its launch at MIPTV 2018, the hidden camera format has been acquired by unnamed broadcasters in the Netherlands and Belgium.

The Silence Breaker follows men and women in real-time who are experiencing sexual harassment or assault at their workplace. Inspired by the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, the series follows these individuals as they work to bring their harassment to light via hidden camera footage. Each story wraps with a confrontation with the harasser.
