Scottish broadcaster STV has appointed Richard Williams as managing director of its newly formed digital division.
Williams will join STV in October 2018 in the digital department, which according to a release, is “part of an ambitious strategy to place digital front and center of the organization to deliver its three-year growth plan.” The plan will see STV invest £15 million (US$19.76m) in new original content and its digital service, STV Player.
In his new role, Williams is tasked with driving the growth of the STV Player by expanding its reach and developing exclusive digital content in partnership with STV Productions.
The executive joins STV from British multichannel broadcaster UKTV where he was general manager of its VOD service, UKTV Play.
Before his stint at UKTV, Williams held digital roles at Virgin Media, Yahoo, ITV and the BBC.
