UK-based television company ITN has appointed BBC Studios exec Anna Mallett as its new chief executive officer, effective 2019.

Mallett takes over from John Hardie who, earlier this year, announced his decision to step down from ITN at the end of 2018 after nearly a decade of leading the company.

In the interim, CFO Bryan Martin and ITN productions editorial director Chris Shaw will assume the respective roles of acting CEO and acting editor-in-chief.

Mallet joins ITN from BBC Studios where she currently serves as group chief operating officer and MD for production. In this role, she is responsible for core operations, the business and operational leadership of all production, and oversight of BBC Studios’ international production and formats business.

In this role, Mallett led the integration of BBC Worldwide and BBC’s UK production business to create BBC Studios. The prodco’s programs include Strictly Come Dancing and Blue Planet II.

Prior to her current role, the exec held a number of senior positions at the BBC, including COO of the pre-merger BBC Studios. Before joining the BBC, Mallett spent approximately eight years at global management consulting firm the Boston Consulting Group.

“Anna will join at an exciting period in the company’s history, with ITN’s award-winning journalism stronger than ever and ITN Productions having grown substantially over the last decade,” said  Christy Swords, chair of the ITN board, in a statement. “The board is confident that, under Anna’s leadership, ITN is well-positioned to deliver continued growth and further achievements over the coming years.”
