Leeds-based non-scripted label Wise Owl Films has appointed industry veteran James Knight to oversee the company’s specialist factual department.
Knight joins the Lime Pictures off-shoot as a development executive, having previously worked on a raft of specialist factual series and specials including The World’s Biggest Cave, Naked Science, Hidden China and Supercar Megabuild for such broadcasters as Discovery, History, CBBC, ITV, Sky and Channel 4.
Most recently, Knight produced the Workerbee format Scrapyard Supercar for National Geographic International and British multi-channel broadcaster UKTV.
“James has produced a number of great, hit series in more than 15 years in television to date – many of them international operations with complex, multi-camera shoots,” said Wise Owl Films creative director Mark Robinson in a statement. “He’s massively respected in the industry and a big, creative talent – the perfect person to help Wise Owl expand and grow our output in the specialist factual arena.”
Wise Owl launched late last year with its first commission, ITV’s Metropolis. The tentatively titled four-part series documents the stories of the staff, passengers and communities whose lives revolve around the Tyne and Wear Metro, the 40-year-old rapid transit rail network in North East England.
