Disney-owned young adult TV and streaming network Freeform has appointed Lauren Corrao to the role of VP of original programming and development.
Corrao (pictured) will accelerate and amplify Freeform’s brand-defining content and inclusive stories aimed at young adults. She will oversee all scripted and unscripted development and current original programming, as well as casting and talent development.
The seasoned executive steps into the role replacing Karey Burke, who was named the head of ABC Entertainment in November following the departure of Channing Dungey. In her new role, Corrao will report to network president Tom Ascheim.
Corrao was most recently co-president of indie studio Tornante TV — owned by former Disney CEO Michael Eisner — where she developed and executive produced several projects.
Before that she spent eight years at Comedy Central where she most recently served as president of original programming and development. Before that, she held positions at Fox and MTV.
“Lauren’s wealth of experience coupled with her incredible creative instinct as well as close working relationships with many talented writers and producers will be invaluable to Freeform,” said Ascheim in a statement. “In collaboration with the programming team, she will undoubtedly grow our slate of successful series and continue to build an environment for the talent community to tell powerful stories that become a lasting part of the cultural zeitgeist.”
