U.S. pubcaster PBS has extended president and CEO Paula Kerger’s contract for another five years.
Kerger (pictured) has held the position for 13 years. She is the longest serving president and CEO of PBS and currently the only woman leading a national broadcast network.
“I believe so strongly in the purpose and power of public television: the content that makes a difference in peoples’ lives; the conversations that bring people together; the programs and resources that prepare our youngest learners for success,” said Kerger in a statement. “Public television isn’t just relevant — the work we do has never been more important. And I’m excited about what lies ahead.”
“As PBS plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2020, Paula is firmly positioned to further advance its mission,” said PBS, in a release.
The announcement was made during the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
