Principal photography has just wrapped on Prehistoric Worlds, from indie French prodco and distributor ZED.
The 90-minute natural history special is co-produced with American SVOD platform CuriosityStream for France 5 and Japanese pubcaster NHK.
Shot in Canada, China, South Africa and Iceland and using CGI recreations, Prehistoric Worlds explores the five most powerful extinction events in Earth’s history.
The 90-minute standalone will be accompanied by a 52-minute version for the international market, which has has already been pre-sold to ZDFinfo, ServusTV, Planète+, Planete+ Poland, FTV PRIMA, and AMC Networks International Southern Europe Odisea/Odisseia.
“This film will allow our sales team to meet the clients’ growing demand for scientific documentaries about this subject: Exploring ancient biodiversity to better understand the past thanks to today’s technological resources,” said Chloé Persyn-Preljocaj, head of sales and acquisitions at ZED, in a statement.
“It also invites us to wonder about a ‘sixth mass extinction event,’ that might already be underway, according the scientific community.”
Prehistoric Worlds will be delivered in November.
