Courtney Sexton has been promoted to the role of senior vice president of CNN Films, effective immediately.

Sexton (pictured) joined CNN Films in 2013 and previously held the title of VP at the company.

During her tenure, her team has acquired, co-produced or commissioned more than 40 original features and shorts, including Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, Scandalous, John Lewis (working title) and Lady Boss.

This year, she executive produced CNN’s Halston and Apollo 11, both of which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and in 2018, she was executive producer doc blockbusters RBG and Three Identical Strangers.

Her other credits include Love, Gilda, American Jail, Life Itself, Blackfish, Our Nixon, and many more.

Prior to joining CNN, Sexton worked for eight years as a development executive at Participant Media in documentary production. Her projects there included An Inconvenient Truth, Food, Inc., Standard Operating Procedure and Page One: Inside the New York Times.

Sexton will remain based in Los Angeles in her new role.
