BBC taps Nicki Sheard for CMO role

Nicki Sheard is returning to the BBC as chief marketing officer of BBC Studios following stints at Charlotte Tilbury Beauty and King Digital Entertainment.

Sheard (pictured) is tasked with setting the global marketing strategy for the studio and its brands. She will lead the commercial exploitation of BBC Studios’ portfolio, which includes series such as Top Gear, Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing With the Stars, and brands such as BBC Earth, BBC First and BBC Brit.

The executive will also have guardianship of the BBC Studios master-brand and sub-brands globally. She takes up the new role in March.

Sheard most recently served as CMO at Charlotte Tilbury Beauty. Prior to that she held senior marketing positions across the media sector, including first vice president of brand at King Digital Entertainment. In that role, Sheard lead Candy Crush‘s move into franchise entertainment, which included executive producing a CBS series based on the video game.

At the BBC, Sheard previously served as head of marketing for BBC News and director of marketing and audiences for Radio & Music. She started her career at Procter & Gamble in brand management before joining McKinsey & Co. to work across consumer and media clients.

Laughing All The Way To The Bank heads to Europe

Israel-based producer-distributor Gil Formats has secured deals in Spain, Portugal and Germany for its comedy competition format Laughing All The Way To The Bank.

The series, which launched at MIPCOM 2019, has been picked up in Spain and Portugal by Endemol Shine Iberia and in Germany by Seapoint.

Laughing All The Way To The Bank sees people who think they’re funny offered the chance the win a cash prize by making the TV channel’s straight-faced accountant laugh out loud during a car ride to the bank.

Green Inc. lands BBC format commission

Northern Ireland indie Green Inc. has been commissioned by BBC Northern Ireland to produce the original factual format Tricked Out Tractors.

The 3 x 30-minute series brings together a team of specialists in areas such as bodywork, electronics, paintwork and restoration to transform prized tractors.

From restoring vintage tractors to “pimped out machines” with the latest over the top features, to engine rebuilds of “monster tractors,” the format will reveal creations viewers would least expect to see in the farmyard.

Zoe McGivern is series producer for Green Inc., and Stephen Stewart is executive producer. Karen Kirby is executive producer for BBC Northern Ireland.
