UK broadcaster ITV has commissioned London-headquartered ITN Productions, the creative arm of ITN, to produce a one-hour special paying tribute to late English entertainer Des O’Connor.
Filming on Des O’Connor: The Ultimate Entertainer began earlier this year after O’Connor (pictured) retired at age 88. He passed away Nov. 14.
O’Connor was the longest serving primetime TV host on British television. Starting in the early 1960s, O’Connor was the host of such series as The Des O’Connor Show, Des O’Connor Tonight and Today with Des and Mel, among others.
The television personality also acted in theaters globally and released 36 albums.
The special will feature insight from family and friends and include access to a collection of hundreds of unseen home movies.
Contributors include Jonathan Ross, Jay Leno, Melanie Sykes, Bradley Walsh, Joe Pasquale, Alan Davies, Elaine Paige, Sir Cliff Richard, Jimmy Tarbuck, Sheila Ferguson and Jodie Brooke Wilson.
The documentary was commissioned by Jo Clinton-Davis and Amanda Stavri for ITV. Ali Lynch serves as producer and distributor, with Melanie Sykes executive producing alongside ITN’s Will Smith.
