Tom Farrell‘s The WorkShop Content Studios — producer of Netflix’s Basketball or Nothing and the Amazon/PBS documentary True North: The Sean Swarner Story – and Restaurant: Impossible host Robert Irvine have teamed to coproduce the 90-minute film Hell or High Seas.
The documentary will follow Navy veteran Taylor Grieger (pictured, front) and author Stephen O’Shea (back) who attempt to sail Cape Horn and raise awareness about veteran suicide.
Using DSLR cameras, GoPros and a drone, Grieger and O’Shea documented the expedition, including the team’s encounter with Hurricane Harvey. The film weaves footage from the trip with reflections from Grieger and O’Shea on the impact of the journey.
FreshFly (PBS ‘American Masters’ Wyeth) serves as the film’s primary production and post-production company. The WorkShop Content Studios will handle global distribution rights.
Farrell and Irvine executive produce with The WorkShop Content Studio’s Matt Howley and FreshFly co-founder Charyne Gregg. The film is directed by Glenn Holsten.
Hell or High Seas is currently entering post-production.
Founded in 2007, The WorkShop Content Studios has produced unscripted and documentary content for Amazon, Netflix, PBS and TLC, among others. The company’s Basketball or Nothing for Netflix was named as outstanding sports documentary at the Realscreen Awards this week.
