Netflix is set to premiere a documentary about the late American painter, art instructor and television host Bob Ross this summer from Joshua Rofé, the director behind Hulu’s Sasquatch docuseries.
Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed will tell the untold story about the prolific landscape artist and host of The Joy of Painting, which aired on PBS from 1983 to 1994.
The doc will delve into what’s billed in its promotional material as the “sinister tale surrounding his name and the empire that was built on it.”
Melissa McCarthy will produce alongside Rofé, Ben Falcone, Divya D’Souza and Steven Berger.
Netflix has yet to set a release date.
The streamer also recently greenlit a pair of docuseries: an unscripted series following the Hype House social media collective in Los Angeles and a docuseries about NASCAR Cup Series driver Bubba Wallace.
The Hype House series is being produced by Wheelhouse Entertainment while 300 Studios and Boardwalk Pictures will produce the Bubba Wallace title.
