A new documentary from the Duplass Brothers Productions is in the works about global skateboarding superstar Tony Hawk.
On Tuesday (Aug. 3), Variety was the first to report that the Duplass brothers (Wild Wild Country) were working on the project, with ICM Partners representing sales for the film. The film, which is still untitled, will focus on the life and career of the 53-year-old entrepreneur and former professional skateboarder.
A fall festival launch of the film is anticipated ahead of a wider release in 2022, but no further details have been confirmed about the film’s release.
Sam Jones (I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued) will direct the film. Jones and Hawk collaborated previously when Hawk appeared as a guest on the first season of Off Camera with Sam Jones, the filmmakers’ interview-format TV series.
Another documentary about one of Hawk’s most successful ventures, the video game series that bears his name, was released last year. Pretending I’m a Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story, directed by Ludvig Gür, is a film about the popular video game franchise which includes 21 games released since 1999.
