A documentary on the life of legendary rock musician Little Richard is in the works for CNN Films and HBO Max.

Currently in production and expected to be completed in the fall, Little Richard: I Am Everything (w/t) tells the story of the rock ‘n’ roll pioneer born Richard Penniman through personal insights from his loved ones and colleagues, observations from contemporary musicians and historians, and previously unreleased archival materials. Lisa Cortés (All In: The Fight for Democracy) is directing the doc, which is being produced by Bungalow Media + Entertainment is producing in association with Rolling Stone.

“His story is the history of rock ‘n’ roll: musical genius mixed with the sheer audacity to morph and change at will, seeking permission from no one.  The film is called I Am Everything because that was Little Richard’s triumph: transcending all categories and expectations to be everything he dreamed,” Cortés said in a news release.

Dee Rees and Robert Friedman are executive producing the film for Bungalow, with Gus Wenner and Jason Fine serving as EPs for Rolling Stone. Other executive producers on the project are Liz Yale Marsh and Mike Powers, as well as Courtney Sexton and Amy Entelis for CNN Films. Caryn Capotosto is producer.

CNN Films and HBO Max are credited as executive producers on the doc, which will premiere on CNN. HBO Max, meanwhile, will hold domestic and international SVOD streaming rights to the film.
