Kensington Communications and White Pine Pictures, both Canadian television and interactive production companies, have joined together to create a new iPhone app, City Sonic. City Sonic is the mobile portion of a multi-platform initiative, which has already debuted at film festivals, on television and the web. City Sonic is a location-based documentary film series for music lovers. The short film series features artists such as Rush's Geddy Lee and Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning in Toronto locations that changed the lives of the musicians. Users of the iPhone app can watch the films using the City Sonic map interface, guided by GPS, or watch at their leisure. Extras of app include rare archival video and previously unreleased songs, which are unlocked either through quizzes or by GPS, tripped when the app user walks past certain Toronto music spots.
