South Korea and Romania boasted International Emmy Award winners after the gala event for the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences took place in New York, hosted by actor Jason Priestley. Romania won for the first time with HBO Romania's The World According to Ion B taking home the award for arts programming, while Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation's Mom and the Red Bean Cake won the documentary category, a first win for South Korea. Newscorp chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch was on hand to present Got Talent and X Factor producer and judge Simon Cowell with the International Emmy Founders Award.
