‘The Cove’ and PBS docs take Writers Guild Awards

The Writers Guild Awards has named The Cove the winner of the Documentary Screenplay award this past Saturday night in Los Angeles. Mark Monroe, writer of the documentary, was the recipient for the Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions film. For television, two PBS docs were named winners. For the category of Documentary - Current Events, the 'Frontline' documentary The Madoff Affair, written by Marcela Gaviria and Martin Smith took the award, while PBS' 'American Experience' doc The Trials of J. Robert Oppenheimer, written by David Grubin, won the Documentary - Other Than Current Events honor.
