Neil Nightingale, head of the BBC Natural History Unit from 2003 to 2009, has been named as creative director for BBC Earth, the global brand featuring BBC natural history content from the last 50 years. Nightingale first joined the Beeb in 1983 as a researcher and assistant producer, becoming series editor for The Natural World in 1995. The BBC says Nightingale will remain in an executive role with the Natural History Unit, acting as an exec producer and working with BBC Earth on developing new content, ranging from theatrical releases to filming natural history content in 3D and developing live events around its natural history content. 'The role Neil is taking up could lead the BBC's Natural History [Unit] into completely new and exciting territories,' said Tom Archer, Controller of Factual Production for the BBC. 'It's always exciting to discover new ways of connecting with our audiences, especially when we have world-class content to offer them.'
