NHK and France Télévisions have renewed their coproduction/pre-buy agreement for the next three years. The two broadcasters' new deal, a continuation of their 2002 agreement, will include partnering on the development and production of series and one-off docs that will be coproduced or pre-bought by either party. NHK and France Télévisions will focus on projects in the genres of discovery, science and technology, history and archeology and education. The collaboration will include France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5, France ', and NHK and France Télévisions will agree to the terms of collaboration on a case-by-case basis. Already in the works are plans for the copro China 2000 BC, a series on the archaeological discoveries proving the existence of China's Xia Dynasty, and a docudrama Volcano Devils, about the famous French volcanologist couple who died from the eruption of Mount Unzen in Japan in 1991. The partnership includes the coproduction of websites, already established with Secret Civilizations: Incan, Mayan, and Aztec Worlds, a trilingual website produced for the documentary series of the same name. Currently the two broadcasters are working on a website for the documentary series Life Force, a coproduction between NHK, NHNZ, France Télévisions, Science Channel, and Animal Planet, set to launch at the end of October ahead of the broadcast of the six-part documentary series.
