Los Angeles Film Fest announces award winners

The 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF) announced the award-winning films at the fest for this year. The Target Documentary Award, which bestows US$50,000 to the director of the 'finest documentary in competition at the festival', went to directors Juan Carlos Rulfo and Carlos Hagerman for Those Who Remain (Los Que se Quedan), which examines the stories of Mexican families affected by migration. The Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature went to Soul Power, directed by Jeffrey Levy-Hinte, which documents a legendary three-day concert event in Zaire timed to coincide with the 'Rumble in the Jungle.' The award for Best Documentary Short Film went to Anna Gaskell's Replayground, and the Audience Award fir Best International Feature also went to a doc - Born Without (Nacido Sin) from Eva Norvind, which follows street musician/actor Jose Flores, who was born without arms and stands three feet tall. The festival ran from June 18 to June 28.
