‘Papikatuk’ director takes top Commonwealth Vision Award

Greg Hemmings, of New Brunswick-based Hemmings House Pictures, was awarded top prize at this year's Commonwealth Vision Awards in London. Hemmings received the honor from Lord David Puttnam, producer of such films as Chariots of Fire and The Killing Fields. The prize was awarded for Papikatuk, Hemmings' short about a young Inuit boy learning the ways of Inuit life while the Arctic region undergoes changes due to global warming. The theme for this year's Vision Awards, an initiative of the Royal Commonwealth Society and the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, was global change. Pooja Pottenkulam and Ambjorn Elder received the Highly Commended prize, for their joint entry in the competition, The Boy Who Spoke Moomoo.
