Sophie Jones

Head of documentaries, Minnow Films

Crafting fearless factual across platforms

Joining London-headquartered prodco Minnow Films in 2020 as an EP after a stint at Story Film as a series producer, and then upped to head of docs in 2023, Jones has made her mark by developing bold, access-driven projects that run the gamut from pop culture explorations to hard-hitting true crime. She's served as a lead executive on such projects as The Detectives: Taking Down an OCG [Organized Crime Group] for the BBC, Manhunt for Channel 4 and several projects for Netflix, including the recent Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action, and led development for the massively popular Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies and Scandal (which topped viewer charts in 30 countries including the U.S. and UK).

"Sophie is fearless when it comes to the trickiest access situation with a direct yet very human approach that is always appreciated from the highest levels of an institution to a roots/street level," says Minnow Films CEO Morgan Matthews. "She has great sensibilities across the spectrum of documentary and a very high bar for quality throughout development and production." BW

What's the dream project you'd like to get on the air?

"In an era of fake news and misinformation, the truth is hard to find, and documentaries have never been more important. My dream project would be to gain unprecedented, top-to-bottom access to the White House during Trump's next presidency. Imagine rigging the entire place with cameras 24/7 — from the bedroom to the Oval Office and everything in between. It would enable us to capture the raw, unfiltered reality of one of the most controversial administrations of our time."
