Roseanne Barr returning to TV for Lifetime unscripted series

3 Ball Productions and Full Moon and High Tide Productions are behind the as-yet-untitled 16 x 30-minute series.

One of the top TV comediennes of the late Eighties and Nineties is returning to the tube in a reality series for Lifetime.

Roseanne Barr, star of the eponymously titled ABC sitcom that ran from 1988 to 1997, will be the focus of the new series, to be produced by Eyeworks-owned 3 Ball Productions with Barr’s production company Full Moon and High Tide Productions. The program will follow Barr as she manages a 40-acre macadamia and livestock farm on Hawaii’s Big Island, with boyfriend Johnny Argent and son Jake.

“Roseanne Barr is an undeniable force of nature and the idea of following her in this unique premise excited us from the get-go,” said Lifetime president and GM Nancy Dubuc in a statement.  “Roseanne is funny and brutally honest, and our audience will relate to her decision to go on this adventure and create an entirely new life for herself.  We are thrilled she will make her long-awaited return to television on Lifetime.”

“I’m coming back down to earth, and keeping it real,’ added Barr. “They’ve said ‘Roseanne’s nuts’ for years, and now I’m going to make that a reality – I’m all about nuts now, macadamia nuts!”

Roseanne Barr, JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson, Brant Pinvidic, and Steven Greener are executive producers on the series, slated to air this year on the U.S. cable net.  Jake Pentland (The Roseanne Show) will serve as producer.
