U.S. net Discovery Channel is to air a factual series about the world of organized crime starring Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter next month.

Produced by Studio Lambert and Sutterink, Kurt Sutter’s Outlaw Empires will premiere on May 14 at 10 p.m. EST. Each episode will take an in-depth look at the inner machinations of a different American outlaw dynasty, including the Aryan Brotherhood, the Irish Mob, the Nuestra Familia, the Italian Mafia, the Crips, and the outlaw bikers.

“I’ve made a career writing about fictitious anti-heroes. To create these worlds, I’ve spent a lot of time with active members on both sides of the law and if I had to pick the most interesting of the two, the choice is obvious – we all love the guys in black,” Sutter, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, said in a statement.

“This isn’t about making a judgment call on who’s good or bad. As a storyteller, I’m drawn to these personal, intimate accounts of why these men made the choices they made, and what it’s like to be a member of an outlaw organization.”

Kurt Sutter’s Outlaw Empires will be exec produced for Studio Lambert by Eli Holzman, Stephen Lambert and Philip Lott, and co-executive produced by Christopher Meindl and Aaron Saidman. Cameo Wallace serves as executive producer for Discovery Channel.
