U.S. broadcaster NBC has greenlit The Winner Is, a show from The Voice producer Talpa Media USA.

The game show will pit singers of all ages in head-to-head singing duels, battling it out to win a cash prize of US$1 million. Judged by an as-yet-unnamed celebrity judge and an in-studio panel, contestants will be given a chance to negotiate a deal with their opponent.

The Winner Is allows players to choose to step out of the competition in exchange for a predetermined cash prize, or continue with the game. The amount of money in each deal increases with every round. In the series finale, eight singers will duel and negotiate until only two contestants remain.

Talpa Media’s John de Mol is the executive producer. “Talented singers and the show’s surprising competitive twist, with the possibility of negotiating a deal to step out of the game, will have viewers engaged and entertained,” said Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late night programming at NBC, in a statement.
