FilmBuff secures digital rights for “Knuckleball!”

New York-based digital distributor FilmBuff has picked up the rights for directors Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg’s Knuckleball! (pictured), a documentary about the most unusual pitch in baseball.
Coproduced by Stern and Sundberg’s Break Thru Films, Amelia & Theo Films and Major League Baseball Productions, the film premiered at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival and will be released by FilmBuff on digital and VOD platforms in September.
“Knuckleball! is one of those unique films that appeals to all viewers – regardless of their inclinations towards the sport – in a way that only such talented filmmakers as Ricki and Annie could ever pull off,” said Steve Beckman, FilmBuff head of acquisitions, in a statement. “It is a winning film and we’re thrilled to be working on it.”
Stern and Sundberg, best known for their docs The Devil Came on Horseback and Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, set out to make the definitive film about the knuckleball pitch. It features interviews with pitchers such as Tim Wakefield of the Boston Red Sox and R. A. Dickey of the New York Mets.
