TIFF ’13: FilmBuff takes on “Burt’s Buzz”

New York-based digital distributor FilmBuff has taken the theatrical and VoD rights to Everyday Pictures’ Burt’s Buzz (pictured), a documentary on Burt’s Bee’s founder Burt Shavitz.

FilmBuff will distribute the documentary in the U.S. across theaters and VoD platforms, including iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, Xbox Video, Cinemanow and other platforms, in early 2014, after the film’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Directed by Jody Shapiro (How to Start Your Own Country) and executive produced by Jean Du Toit, Phyllis Laing and Isabella Rossellini, the film takes a look at the life of Shavitz, the iconic face of natural skin care brand Burt’s Bees, who lives off grid in a modest home in Maine.

“Knowing the importance that VoD now plays when releasing a documentary, I couldn’t be more excited to bring Burt’s unique story to both cinemas and homes across the U.S.,” said Shapiro.

Burt’s Buzz is not only a character-driven, human story about a remarkable man, but also provides an incredible lens into one of the most recognizable brands in the world,” added FilmBuff’s head of content partnerships Steven Beckman. “We immediately fell in love with Burt, and know that his surprising journey will resonate with audiences.”

International sales are being handled by The Film Sales Company.
