Buccaneer Media adds head of unscripted

Former Outline Productions exec Ross McCarthy is joining London-based Buccaneer Media as the head of unscripted.

Buccaneer Media, launched last year by The Only Way is Essex producer Tony Wood, has tasked McCarthy to work on scripted reality in development when he takes on the newly created role in March.

As the executive producer and head of development at Outline Productions, he led the development of factual entertainment formats, including Million Dollar Intern for BBC Worldwide Channel, Health Freaks and Fat Family Treefor Channel 4, Britain’s Big Wildlife Revival for BBC1 and Tom Kerridge’s Proper Pub Food for BBC2.

Prior to Outline, McCarthy was in senior development at Wall to Wall, ITV and Twenty Twenty.

“Ross has a proven track record of creating fantastic factual entertainment formats with high-profile talent,” said Wood. “I am really looking forward to mixing up his skills and background with the structured reality programming we’ve been developing.”

“I have wanted to play in the structured reality space for some time, so the opportunity to work with the genre’s godfather was too good to turn down,” added McCarthy.
